What the Candidate Bundle is

The Prison Officer Candidate Bundle is two practice tools for one payment of £39: the Interview Toolkit and the Fitness Pass Suite. Bought separately they cost £29 and £14.99, a total of £43.99, so the bundle saves £4.99. Both unlock on the device you buy on, straight after payment, and follow you to other devices when you create a free account. There is no subscription, guest checkout works, and a 14-day money-back guarantee applies, no questions asked.

The bundle exists because the two hurdles most candidates worry about are different in kind. The interview is about telling true stories clearly and calmly on a webcam. The fitness test is about physical capability on a particular day. Preparing for one does not help with the other, and both have to be passed before an offer. The bundle puts the preparation for each in one purchase and one account.

Where the two tools fit in the published process

HMPPS publishes the stages for prison officers in England and Wales: online application, scenario-based test, values-based assessment, online assessment centre (about 2 hours 30 minutes, laptop with webcam, including an interview, a role-play scenario and a written test), pre-employment checks (8 to 10 weeks), medical assessment, fitness test, then provisional and final offer. The overall journey averages 6 to 7 months from starting the application to the first working day, according to the careers site.

The Interview Toolkit is for the assessment centre stage and the online assessments before it. The Fitness Pass Suite is for the fitness test that follows the medical. Because pre-employment checks take 8 to 10 weeks, many candidates have time between the assessment centre and the fitness test, which is the best moment to start fitness preparation rather than the week before. Our guide to how long recruitment takes shows how the stages line up.

What you get: the Interview Toolkit

The toolkit is a practice workspace built around the published Civil Service behaviours: a question bank of over 50 clearly labelled practice questions, an evidence bank for your own STAR examples with a coverage grid, an AI mock interview that scores every answer, scenario and numeracy practice, application answer builders, a two-week plan and a printable briefing. It is practice material. HMPPS publishes no question bank, pass mark or scoring scheme, so we do not claim the questions are real or that a practice score predicts a result. The full toolkit page describes each tab.

What you get: the Fitness Pass Suite

The Fitness Pass Suite is our tool for the fitness test: a bleep-test predictor, a six-week pass plan and a weekly session tracker, with AI training-plan help. HMPPS publishes the components of the test (a bleep test and upper-body strength tasks including holding a 7 kg riot shield) but not, on the current pages we read, the exact bleep level; figures quoted elsewhere come from a 2019 document cited by third parties, so treat any bleep target as a training guide rather than an official pass mark. See the fitness test guide and the free fitness test calculator first, and the Fitness Pass Suite page for the full description.

Nothing in the suite is medical advice. If you have a health condition, declare it as the application asks, and speak to your GP before starting a hard training plan. HMPPS says a health condition will not necessarily prevent you from doing the job, and reasonable adjustments are available in the recruitment process.

How the unlock works

One payment of £39 unlocks both tools. You pay through Stripe, as a guest or signed in. On return to the site, both tools are open on that device. If you then create a free account, the unlock is linked to it and follows you across devices; accounts are optional and are only ever offered after purchase. If you buy while signed in, access is saved to your account immediately.

If you already own one of the two tools, email hello@prisonofficerpay.co.uk before you buy and we will explain your options, so you do not pay twice for the same thing. The checkout does not apply credit automatically.

  1. Press unlock on this page and complete payment on the secure Stripe checkout.
  2. You return to this page with both tools open on your device.
  3. Open the Interview Toolkit and the Fitness Pass Suite from the links above.
  4. Optionally create a free account so access and your saved work follow you to other devices.

What the bundle does not do

It does not guarantee or predict that you will pass anything. We publish no pass rates because none exist in the sources we trust; HMPPS does not publish a pass rate for prison officers. It does not replace the official practice test for the scenario-based test, and it is not affiliated with HMPPS, the Ministry of Justice or the POA. It does not do your vetting, your application or your medical for you, and it does not tell you whether you meet the entry rules: use the free eligibility checker and read the vetting guide for that.

It also does not make the process shorter. The recruitment journey is long and, on merit vacancies, competitive: posts are allocated in order of assessment score and the list is valid for 12 months. What the bundle can do is make sure you do not lose a place for a reason you could have prepared for.

Who the bundle is for

It suits someone with a live application or an invitation to the assessment centre, who has checked they meet the published entry rules and wants structured preparation for both the interview and the fitness test. It is less useful if you have not yet decided whether to apply: start with a day in the life, the pros and cons and starting salary, and use the free tools. If you only need one of the two, buy that one on its own: the Interview Toolkit or the Fitness Pass Suite.

Refunds, privacy and support

The 14-day money-back guarantee applies to the bundle as a whole, no questions asked; email us within 14 days of purchase. Your statutory rights as a UK consumer are not affected, and our terms have the details. Your saved work stays on your device and, if you create an account, in your private account area; analytics never include the text you write. Questions about the bundle can go through the contact page.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Candidate Bundle include?

The Interview Toolkit and the Fitness Pass Suite for a single payment of £39. Bought separately they cost £29 and £14.99.

Is the bundle cheaper than buying both?

Yes. £39 against £43.99 separately, a saving of £4.99.

I already bought one of them. What should I do?

Email hello@prisonofficerpay.co.uk before buying the bundle and we will explain your options. The checkout does not apply credit automatically.

Does the bundle guarantee I will pass?

No. Both are practice and planning tools. HMPPS does not publish pass marks or pass rates for prison officers, and we do not claim any improvement in your chances.

Do I need an account?

No. You can buy as a guest and use both tools on that device. A free account is offered after purchase so access follows you to other devices.

Is there a refund?

Yes. 14-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked. See the terms.

Is the interview toolkit the real HMPPS interview?

No. HMPPS publishes no question bank. The toolkit contains our own labelled practice questions based on the published behaviours.

Are the fitness standards official?

The current HMPPS pages name the test components but not the bleep level. Figures quoted elsewhere come from a 2018 MoJ/HMPPS summary for serving officers and a site Ofsted lists as the HMPPS Learning Centre's website citing 2019 guidance we could not open, so treat any target as a training guide, not an official pass mark.
