If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so.
Pay awards, pension rules and policies change, and mistakes happen. Here is what we do about both.
How to report something
Use the contact form and choose "A correction to a guide". Tell us the page, the figure or sentence you think is wrong and, if you can, a link to the source you are checking it against (a payslip, an HMPPS or PSPRB publication, a scheme document, a policy framework).
What happens next
- We check the claim against the primary source, listed in our source policy, not against another website's version of the same figure.
- If we were wrong, we correct the page and update its reviewed date. Pay figures are corrected in the single pay data file so every guide, calculator and prison page changes together.
- If we were right but the rule has since changed, we update the figure and say when the change took effect.
- If the report rests on a misunderstanding, we explain why. You are owed a real answer either way.
What we will not do
We will not quietly change a pay, pension or tax figure and pretend it was never different. A meaningful correction updates the page's visible reviewed date; where an error could have affected a decision (for example a wrong pension or eligibility rule) we add a short note on the page saying what changed.
Response time
This is a small independent site, not a newsroom with a corrections desk. We aim to acknowledge reports promptly, but verifying a claim against a regulation or a pay review body report can take a few days. We would rather be right than fast.
Corrections log
We do not yet keep a public log of past corrections. Where a page has been materially corrected, the note sits on that page.
