What the report is for
The free prison officer pension calculator is good for exploring. This report is for when you want the answer on paper. It takes the numbers you entered and turns them into a short briefing you can print or save as a PDF: where your alpha pension stands, what retiring at different ages would mean, what a lump sum would cost you, and what to ask next.
People often want this before a conversation: with a partner about when to retire, with a union representative, with an independent financial adviser, or with the scheme administrator when they request a quote. A clear page of your own numbers makes those conversations shorter and better.
What is in it
The briefing opens with your headline figures: yearly pension at your chosen retirement age, the member contribution you are paying in 2026/27 and the assumptions behind the model. It then compares retirement ages, shows the lump sum trade-off, and ends with the AI-written interpretation and a checklist of questions for the administrator.
The rules it applies are the published ones: alpha earns 2.32% of pensionable earnings a year, revalued by CPI each April; the 2026/27 contribution bands are 4.6%, 5.45%, 7.35% and 8.05% applied to all earnings; normal pension age is the later of State Pension age and 65 with no lower age for prison officers; the lump sum exchange is £12 for each £1 given up within HMRC limits. As at 3 October 2026 the POA's campaign that a pension age of 68 is too late had produced no decision to change it that we could find, and the report says so.
How the AI interpretation works
The interpretation is written from your model's numbers and the sourced rules, not from invented examples. It is there to explain what the numbers mean in plain English. It will not tell you what to do, and it can be wrong, so read it as a starting point and check anything important with your administrator.
Report, Command or bundle?
The Pension & Lump-Sum Report is £14.99 once. If you also want State Pension income to 90, the annual allowance check, a McCloud estimate and the four-scenario lab, Pension Command is £39 and also unlocks the briefing, so you would not need to buy both. The Serving Officer Bundle is £59 and covers Pay Planner Pro (£12.99), Pension Command (£39), this report (£14.99) and Promotion Prep (£19.99), which total £86.97 separately, a saving of £27.97.

Is it financial advice?
No. It is information based on published rules and your inputs. Consider a regulated adviser for decisions.
Are the early-retirement figures exact?
No. They use the 2019 GAD table and are labelled as estimates, because new factors apply from 1 November 2026. You can enter the reduction from your own quote.

It uses the figures in your model to write the interpretation. You do not need to enter your name or contact details to use the tool.
Does it work for Northern Ireland?
No. Northern Ireland has the separate NICS scheme. England and Wales (HMPPS) and Scotland (SPS) are in the Civil Service Pension Scheme.
